This week we have something a little different for you!!
You guys may remember the awesome article from last week written by Lamebot, explaining how you can get started DJ’ing out with Traktor for around $200 and his excellent Launchpad Mapping? (If you havent read that ye, I urge you to check it out)
Well, whilst scouring my twitter feed for some mixes to feature today, I came across the following. It’s not quite a Traktor DJ Mix, but it is an album of 15 tracks entirely created in the remix decks of Traktor:
http://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/v=2/album=1834465848/size=venti/bgcol=FFFFFF/linkcol=4285BB/
The entire album, except the first and last tracks were recorded live using only the remix decks. A testiment to what is possible with these decks.
LAMEDust: An experiment in sound manipulation, this is the complete album which features live tracks that were created by LAMEBOT and Dustin of Alien Orchestra.
Along with the several live tracks, each of them produced a track by themselves with similar ambience and tone to the rest to finish up the album.
The theme was to make an entire record in free form. No genre rules, no specifics. The duo noticed they kept making a dissonant, spacey sound and they ran with it. Over 50 minutes of formless, unrestricted sound wave guidance into an audible substance.
