The 2.6 update for Traktor is now available for download in your service centre. There are a couple of things to note; most importantly not to accidentally overwrite your current effect settings. The download wont automatically give you the new effects, you have to install them. There are two ways to do this, one way is to load in the TSI setting for the effects, which will overwrite all your effect settings. The second way is to manually import them in the preferences. More details can be found in the knowledge base, but if you still wish to know a … Continue reading Traktor Pro 2.6 available for download
A couple of months ago I bought the Allen & Heath Xone K2 controller as addition to my mobile setup during travelling. I wanted a small and compact controller that would still be able to do the job.
At first I thought of mapping it for 4 decks as I usually work with a 4 deck setup on my DJM800 with Denon SC2000 controllers and a NI Maschine controller for the FX, but after looking into the Xone K2 documentation it meant I would need to work with the layering and I didn’t want to make the mapping to complex. After plenty of brainstorming, looking up reviews, checking other mappings and reading the Traktor Bible, I decided to go with a single layer mapping for 2 decks with all necessary transport, EQ and FX controls. “I’m a professional DJ and I don’t mix”: I once read an article about a full time gigging DJ who never mixed. EVER. We all know the type because they are pretty much everywhere, from weddings to school functions to random store openings. The guy literally shows up to an event with a carefully pre-selected iTunes playlist, and spends most of him time making sure the guests are having a good time, NOT mixing. This particular professional DJ didn’t care for the way other “Djs” mocked him in that all he did was push play. His article wanted to set … Continue reading Bedroom DJ: The Art Curator Controllerist

For years DJ’s have been mixing tunes together using their musical ear and their talents for recognizing what songs will work well with other tunes. Not only does this talent relate to the timing of beats and the blending of bass, mid and treble, but it also relates to the tone or key of these tracks. In recent years with the explosion of digital DJ’ing and the birth of MP3’s, the DJ world has been treated to software that decipher the key of a track. Musically, certain keys work well with others and knowing which tracks compliment each other can … Continue reading Harmonic Mixing
We deliberated, assumed, discussed, guessed, dribbled, criticized and developed a mild case of hysteria when Native Instruments teased us with their sneak preview of the yet to be named DJ Mixer. The name trickled out through various tweets and discussions that followed, but now the official news is here. The Z2 is available for pre-order over at Native Instruments for a price not too far away from many peoples’ guesses at $899.00. Ean Golden of DJ Tech Tools fame has stepped once again into the limelight with this new video, this time, with a much more listenable array of samples and music. … Continue reading Traktor Kontrol Z2 ready for pre-order
